What is stored, and where

Your lists, the items in them, their order, their check marks and their formatting are stored in a database inside the app's own container on your iPhone. Your display preferences — text size, row spacing, which voice language the chip is set to — are stored in the app's own settings on the same phone. None of it is transmitted anywhere. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

When you choose Paste shared list, the app reads what you have copied, once, to look for a list in it. Nothing about the clipboard is kept.

What we receive

Nothing. We operate no server, so there is nowhere for your data to arrive. We cannot see your lists, cannot recover them if you delete the app, and cannot tell whether you have ever opened it.

Voice

When you hold the microphone button, Zetlist asks iOS to transcribe what you say, using Apple's Speech framework. Where your iPhone has the relevant language pack installed, this happens entirely on the device. Where it does not, the Speech framework may send that audio to Apple for transcription, under Apple's privacy policy rather than ours. Either way the audio is not recorded, stored or transmitted by Zetlist; we receive only the text, on your phone, and it goes straight into your list.

The microphone is active only while your finger is held on the button.

Sharing a list

When you share a list, the entire list is compressed into the link itself — specifically into the part after the #, which web browsers never send to the server hosting the page. Nothing about your list is uploaded to, stored by, or logged by us; we have no server for it to reach.

Be clear about what that does not mean. The link is the list. Whichever app you send it through — Messages, email, anything else — stores that link the way it stores any other message, on its own terms. And anyone who has the link can read the list. Send it only to people you mean to.

This page and the shared-link landing page are served by GitHub Pages, which as a web host records ordinary request logs, including IP addresses, under GitHub's privacy statement. Those logs cannot contain your list, because the part of the link holding it is never sent to the server.

Tracking

Zetlist does not track you across apps or websites, does not use the Advertising Identifier, and shows no advertising. There is no tracking to opt out of.

Children

Zetlist collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13, because it collects no personal information at all.

Changes

If a future version of Zetlist ever collects anything, this page will say so before that version ships, and the change will be described in the App Store release notes.
